Judo and Jiujitsu Association Shizen Hontai

Shizen Hontai stands for a neutral, stable posture. A controlled stance: you are in balance. It is a natural basic posture for judo and jiujitsu: not a fighting stance, but a posture where you are ready to anticipate what is to come.

At Shizen Hontai, you learn skills from judo and jiujitsu. Here, you don’t fight, but work together. Practicing together, getting better together, growing together, getting stronger together, on the road to the black belt together, winning and losing together, staying healthy and fit together and above all … having fun together.

Because sports and exercise at Judo and Jiujitsu Association Shizen Hontai is fun! You meet new people, you train with young and old, you make new friends and you take part in enjoyable activities (check the calendar to see when the next activity is). You give and receive respect and you feel safe and at home.

Shizen Hontai is a true association: a club of enthusiastic and involved people with a heart for the sport, a heart for their club, and a heart for Veldhoven. And with a heart for everyone! Because everyone is welcome at the club.

Do you find it difficult to exercise in a regular group? No problem! Then you can just join one of the adapted judo groups. Here, we adapt judo and jiujitsu to your abilities. This way, you too can enjoy moving in a place where you feel comfortable. So that you gain more self-confidence and are ready to anticipate everything that happens in your life. From the shizen hontai, that neutral basic posture.

Judo and Jiujitsu Association Shizen Hontai: Meet Unwind Develop

A true association

Shizen Hontai has been present in Veldhoven since its foundation on October 1, 1961. Originally as a judo club, later as a judo and jiujitsu association. Veldhoven local Antoon Verblackt was appointed as a judo teacher in 1963 and remains the head trainer at the club to this day.

As befits an association, the board calls an annual general meeting where members have a say in policy-making and decisions. The atmosphere is always informal and pleasant, because that is what the association is all about: having and making fun. In daily life and on the mat.

In 2011, the club celebrated its fiftieth anniversary with a grand jubilee gala. Spectacular demonstrations of judo, jiujitsu, bartitsu, and adapted judo were given in the Atalanta sports hall. Judo teachers received awards and the board was honored. But this celebration was primarily in honor of and intended for all the members.

Affiliated with the Dutch Judo Federation

Judo and Jiujitsu Association Shizen Hontai is affiliated with the Dutch Judo Federation (JBN). All judo and jiujitsu teachers working at the club are instructors recognized and trained by the federation. The club trains its own dojo assistants with the help of available JBN teaching materials. After successfully completing their training, the dojo assistants are recognized by the JBN as assistants on the mat.

In addition to a well-trained teaching staff, you will also find official judo referees at Shizen Hontai. These JBN-trained officials are authorized to lead matches during JBN tournaments and/or championships and to keep track of timing and scores as table jury.

All members of the association are registered with the JBN.

The JBN quality mark

Judo and Jiujitsu Association Shizen Hontai was one of the first clubs in the Netherlands to be awarded the JBN quality mark. It was granted in 2014 as recognition that the club has its affairs well in order. As a member of the club, you know that you are playing sports at a healthy association in a safe environment.

What exactly does the JBN quality mark mean? Firstly, it is a quality guarantee evidenced by a sign and/or sticker at the dojo. Additionally, it is confirmation that the club is an official association affiliated with the national sports federation. And finally, the club uses the quality mark to show that it has substantiated important points of attention.

This means, among other things, that the association has:

The JBN tests annually whether the club meets the conditions set for the JBN quality mark. If so, the quality mark is extended by one year. You can read more information about the JBN quality mark on the Dutch Judo Federation website.
